Mystical Hope in our Times with Cynthia Bourgeault

November 5, 1 pm – 2:30 pm PT on Zoom

Spirituality & Practice is delighted that Cynthia Bourgeault, our most popular e-course presenter, will be doing a special “Benefit Talk and Q&A Conversation” about hope in our times. In her 2001 book Mystical Hope, she suggested a new way of understanding hope in the spiritual life. She explained that hope is not tied to a future desired outcome, some fix-it impulse. It has to do with presence, the experience of being met by something from within. It is an abiding sense of being that bears fruit in sensations of strength, joy, and satisfaction.

The Journey Continues

Thank you to the 21 Living Flame participants who attended our visioning day for a Journey Continues series of offerings for the next year.  In July we will begin a weekly study of the newly edited Spiritual Journey series which will enrich and deepen your understanding of the spiritual experience.

Later in the year we will offer a short course on Contemplative Chanting and creating Prayer Flags.  Watch this space for details. In addition, we are offering a five day Centering Prayer retreat at Mt. Angel.

In 2023 we will consider Contemplative Outreach’s 40 day praxis booklets for groups, a book study, and a day of prayer immersion into the Our Father.

It is so strange to realize how many of us have never met each other in person after 2 1/2 years of journeying together on zoom.  What an unusual and welcome reunion it will be when we finally get to meet in person!

Saturday, Oct. 30th, 2021; 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Pacific Time
On Zoom, Free of charge

The primary purpose of the 12-Step outreach team of CONW is to deepen our practice of the 11th step: “Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.” We try to pass on the simple method of Centering Prayer to others in recovery.

Save the Dates

Retreat Update, October 2021

After a glorious week at the newly renovated Mt. Angel Abbey guesthouse last August, we are excited about returning there in 2022! The dates we have chosen are February 21-27 and October 3-9 – two 6-night/7-day retreats to choose from!

Registration is not open yet, but please save the dates in your calendars and stay tuned for the COOP e-news in November where more details will be revealed. Registration will be online.

In the meantime, consider Zoom day retreats each month with the Living Flame program, on second Tuesdays 9 am-2:30 pm, beginning on November 9. A different presenter from Contemplative Outreach National will be featured each month through May 2022.

Smoke on black background

Holy Smokes!

Check out these e-bulletins put out by Contemplative Outreach Ltd. The Oct. 2021 mentions four YouTubes with Basil Pennington. Definitely worthwhile monthly reads!

“God has made all kinds of creatures. A flower turns its face to the sun, and if it could speak, would say, ‘Here I am.’ Just being a flower is the glory that it gives God. But a human being is made differently … What distinguishes us from the rest of material creation is freedom. It is when, with our capacity for acting freely, we turn to God and say, ‘Here I am,’ that we begin to glorify our Creator.

“At the same time, it is not enough to have transcendent experiences. We have to translate those experiences into daily life and into our humdrum routine. We have to bring all our faculties into harmony with higher states of consciousness and express that knowledge in human terms, in the dusts of this world.”
